Optometrist of the Year - Paul Jensen, O.D. |

Dr. Jensen has been in practice in Renton since 1986. He is a graduate of the University of Washington and the University of California at Berkeley. As an optometric physician, he provides family eye care. He has also specialized in the treatment of dry eye and has extensively lectured, written, and taught doctors and interns regarding the treatment of the dry eye. His other areas of interest include diabetic eye disease and glaucoma. Dr. Jensen is a past president of the King County Optometric Society and trustee of the Washington Assn. of Optometric Physicians. He frequently lectures at the University of California at Berkeley. Dr. Jensen and his wife Kathy have two children, Alison and Erik. Dr. Jensen’s interests include history and politics. As a family, the Jensens enjoy camping, baseball and water polo. |
Young Optometrist of the Year - Rachel Horrocks, O.D. |

Rachel Horrocks, O.D. graduated from Pacific University College of Optometry in 2008. She has lived in Vancouver, WA throughout school and since graduation with her husband (and high school sweetheart) Chrisand their two children Cade and Emerson. She volunteers for Compassion Vancouver and Project Homeless Connect, also donating exams and glasses to the local homeless population in Vancouver.Dr. Horrocks and her mother continually raise their own funds throughout the year so that when the need arises (which it always does) at the community outreach events, they are able to donate their own money to give apatient glasses. Dr. Horrocks also does Free Clinic events quarterly at Evergreen Eye Care. The office works in conjunction with the Vancouver Free Clinic to coordinate exams for people who are uninsured. Dr. Horrocks and the office also see Free Clinic patients for eye health emergencies and glaucoma checkups and more.Rachel Horrocks is a smart, kind, friendly, and graceful practitioner. She brings so much to the optometry table and we are lucky to her her in our profession. |
President's Distinguished Service Award - Phil Williams, O.D. |

Dr. Philip Williams was born and raised in northeastern Indiana. He attended Indiana University for undergraduate school. He then began his optometric training at Indiana University School of Optometry where he graduated and received his Doctor of Optometry degree in 1982. Following graduation, he began a one-year residency program at the American Lake Veterans Administration Medical Center in Tacoma, WA. Shortly after completion of that residency program in June 1983, Dr. Williams founded the Alpine Vision Clinic in Smokey Point (Arlington, WA). Dr. Williams is a board-certified Diplomate of the American Board of Optometry. |
Jack Hale Lifetime Acheivement Award - Brett Bence, O.D. |

Brett's contributions are almost too numerous to list. Not only has he contributed as a gifted clinician and educator, but has lead at all levels of organized optometry. Notably, as a clinician (not academician), he has held the highest office in the Academy of Optometry. All this while being a great friend, husband, dad and community member.
